Here is a powerful Dayton Audio SPA500 500-watt subwoofer plate amplifier with built-in crossover, EQ, and soft-limiter. We used it for a short time to power some custom studio control room subs, then for another short time to power the same subs in a home theater setup. It worked perfectly for our studio sub needs, but we needed more power and don't want the auto shut-off feature for our home theater needs. The auto shut-off feature that turns the amp off at low signal levels, which can be annoying when watching movies that don't have enough LFE channel action to keep the subs working. If you listen at loud levels, or ifr you use this for music reproduction, it isn't much of an issue. The SPA500 just blows away everything other amp we tested in this price range, even two-channel pro audio amps which are capable of delivering nearly twice the power in bridged mode. The built-in EQ and soft-limiter features really allow you to fine-tune this amp to provide massive power, without clipping, for realistic, chest-rattling sub-bass explosions and other cinematic LFE action. The SPA500 produces about 250 watts into an 8-ohm load and 500 watts into a 4-ohm load. Most single driver subs are 4 ohms, as are a pair of 8-ohm subs connected in parallel.
